Curlews are back...

The unmistakable call of the Curlew is very evocative in the Teesdale hills.  The beautiful sound signals the start of spring and many locals note the arrival, whether it be on social media, with photographs or through conversation.  Most of the Curlews in Teesdale only go as far as Saltholme, near Middlesbrough, for winter, so we could pop and see them any time of year if we wish but there is something special about them returning to their summer home that seems to nourish the soul.  The Curlew was the first bird I illustrated and judging by how popular it is, it seems that many of you love this stunning and symbolic bird too :-)
